Interested in a Career in Hospitality Law?

The first step is to go to Wikipedia and read about hospitality law to get an understanding of the scope of the concept practice area. Then browse www.hospitalitylawyer.com to see the law firms in each state that focus on hospitality law. These are firms that would be prime opportunities for internships and or jobs after graduation. Other job opportunities will be at the hospitality companies themselves (hotel and restaurant companies, such as Marriott or Brinker).

If you are an undergraduate, spend time working in and understanding the hospitality industry.

If you are thinking of going to law school, note that currently there is not a law school that has a hospitality law curriculum.  That means you need to focus on courses in labor and employment, torts (personal injury), business formation, contracts and franchising if offered.

I also suggest that you attend the Hospitality Law Conference offered each February in Houston, Texas. The agenda for this 2.5 day gathering of private attorneys and corporate counsel who focus on hospitality law covers all of the major issues impacting the industry and offers excellent networking opportunities.
