Now here is one sure to cause a stir…. I have been wondering why in our hotels we make our front desk associates stand all day long. Yes, I know they get breaks, but standing for 8 hours a day cannot be good for feet or backs.
I thought about this when I heard that our military forced prisoners to stand on their feet for long periods of time as a form of coercion. A stool behind the desk may be a solution, with appropriate guidelines: stand when a guest approaches etc. This concept would also make it possible to accommodate people with standing and walking issues so they could work behind the desk.
I am interested to know your thoughts on this.

If the plan is to coerce then it’s working! As an unpaid intern I stand on hard marble floors for an entire
7 1/2 shift greeting guests. The front desk clerks stand on comfort mats and are allowed to wear comfortable clogs I, however am expected to wear “fashionable” shoes. By the end of my shift my feet have water blisters
and are crying out in agony.
